Inrageous/Outrageous Self-Care Enchantments for This Week

As the final blurb in the theme of “mothers” this month, my plan was to write about the Divine Mother, the Divine Feminine.  I have struggled with writing this, not because I don’t want to but because I don’t feel I am worthy.  I read something a couple of years ago about being a teacher, it was by a well know yogi, I believe, and he basically said that he has nothing to teach any one, all he can do is share about his own life.

This is how I feel.  I don’t have anything to teach about the Divine Mother,  I don’t know anything more about her than you do, all I can do is share about my personal experience.

I was brought up in a pretty strict Protestant household and remember envying my Catholic girl friends for their relationship with the Virgin Mary.  I longed for, no, even more deeply, yearned for a connection with the feminine divinity.

In my deepest being I believed in the power of the Divine Mother but realized I had years of family and cultural conditioning to sort through and discard.

I have spent the last 20 years or so, learning, reading, praying, meditating and connecting with a sacred sense of the Goddess and all I know is that my life is richer as a result.  I also include the masculine side and imagine a divinely balanced pair, a Mother/Father pair.

The self-care enchantments for this week are about you and your relationship to spirit, the Divine Feminine, the Divine Mother.

Self Care Enchantments for the week:

1. Use whichever grounding and centering exercise feels right to you.  It may be as simple as sitting in silence for a minute or so.
2. Reflect on your beliefs, thoughts, connection and relationship to the Divine Mother.
3. Reflect on your beliefs, thoughts, connection and relationship to the Divine Feminine within yourself!

Inrageous/Outrageous Self-Care Enchantments for This Week

I read this wonderful quote during my own “self care and meditation time” this morning: “With deep roots into the earth and broad antennas into the sky, receive the medicine your soul needs to endure life’s transition and discover trust in the unknown” (13 Moon Natural Time Calendar).   The first part, “deep roots into the earth” reminded me that we can ground ourselves strongly and deeply into the rich, loamy and succulent depths of Mother Earth as part of taking care of ourselves and as part of nourishing Gaia.

In the flex and flow of busy life it is important to remember that life is about both “being and doing”.  In our North American culture we are rewarded and acknowledged for “doing, action and results”.  Spending even a few minutes each day on the “being” part of you, can deepen and enhance all areas of your life.

The self-care enchantments for this week are about you, your being and allowing Mother Earth to nourish you and also about how you can care for and nourish Mother Earth.

Self Care Enchantments for the week:

1.    Use the following “grounding” visualization daily. This is an adaptation of some of the visualizations we have already used, you may also choose to design your own.  Sitting quietly in a chair with your feet flat on the floor, or out in the yard with bare feet on the grass, imagine that there are beautiful green pulsing iridescent cords traveling out the soles of your feet deep into the ground.  See these cords traveling right to the earth’s core and wrapping around the fiery molten energy deep within Mother Earth.  Feel the connection with a force greater than yourself.  Feel solid and grounded and pulled down.  Feel the heaviness of the soles of your feet.  Know that you can access this powerful and natural energy at any time and also know that as you move through your daily life, these cords move with you on the surface of the earth while staying anchored and grounded in the earth’s core.  You can add to this visualization by mentally flushing toxins down the cords and out the soles of your feet to be used and transmuted by the earth and you can “pull up earth energy” by visualizing the fiery and powerful core energy and the more gentle generative energy of the soil, coming up through the soles of your feet.  Play around with the visualization and be attentive to the subtle effects.

2.    Do some gardening!  As Peg Streep says “Gardening is a vehicle for spiritual and emotional connection.  It is nothing short of miraculous: You kneel, dig a bit, drip in a seed, add water, and wait.  In time the miracle unveils itself, beginning with an ever-so-tentative shoot of green: Life!”

3.    Commit to one new way to nourish Mother Earth and go “greener” this week.

How did you celebrate Mothers Day?

The self-care enchantments for this week are all about you as a mom, whether a birth mom or a mom of other kids or a pet mom or a mom of ideas and creativity!

Self Care Enchantments for the week:

1.    Reflect on “who you are as a mom”, examine your expectations and assumptions and write about this in your journal.
2.    Now, based on the above reflection, “re-examine all that you have been told (whether by yourself or others) and discard that which insults your heart & soul”.  Note: this is an adaptation of a classic Walt Whitman quote.
3.    Create or re-create your “mom manifesto”, from the perspective of honouring and acknowledging yourself, your gifts, talents, caring and love. Clarify and include your values and guiding principles in your manifesto.  Gift yourself with all of the above by sitting quietly and visualizing yourself as the award recipient of “mom of the year” or receiving an authentic compliment from one of your kids or being acknowledged for a creating something wonderful.  Luxuriate in your feminine creative power and wisdom and chose how you wish your future to unfold.

Inrageous/Outrageous Self-Care Enchantments for This Week

This month, the theme is “mothers”, in honour of Mothers Day and women everywhere, who may or may not be birth mothers of children, but are birth mothers of ideas, creativity, businesses, beautiful homes, love and peace.
So, the enchantments this month are about honouring you as a woman, about honouring mothers, about honouring the Divine Feminine in all of us and about honouring Mother Earth.

I was out for my walk yesterday, thinking and reflecting on my mothers.  I lost my mom to breast cancer when she was 74 and I was 39 and I lost my mother-in-law to lung cancer even earlier.  I treasure my memories of both these dear women and know that with their passing I feel very much that the role of “matriarch” has passed on to me, as the mom of three daughters.  It feels like a significant role.

The mother-daughter dynamic is said to be one of the most powerful in nature and I add that, the mother-daughter relationship (both in the material world and metaphorically) would then be one of the most “pregnant with potential” for personal growth and transformation as well.

The self-care enchantments for this week are about you and your mom!

Self Care Enchantments for the week:

1.    Ponder your relationship with your mom and write down 3 wonderful things about it and share this with your mom.  Even if she has passed on, you can send her a verbal letter and talk to her.  If this is difficult for you, ask yourself what is getting in the way?
2.    Honour yourself as a woman, as a creator, as a spark of the Divine Feminine.
3.    On Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11th, pick an action that feels representative to you of total honouring  and self-care and “give it to yourself”.  You may choose to take the whole day off from any kind of domestic duties, spend the day in nature, make a vision board, or schedule a spa day.  The wonderful part is, you get to choose.
